Relaxing

by Sarah Gould

I am not at home. I am an hour north of my home, sitting at a table, looking out a huge window with a gorgeous view. That picture? I took it last night at sunset here.

I took off mid-morning yesterday, ran a bunch of errands (which included a beautifully long line at the post office where I got to try a peppermint mocha … it was okay) and then drove up to Castle Rock, WA. I have long-time family friends who live up here, and they are always incredibly welcoming when I need to get away. After finals week, I definitely needed to get away. (On a separate note, I probably aced all of my finals. I felt very confident leaving each of them!)

Yesterday I got to meet some of G & R’s friends (who also happen to live two houses down) and we shared a bottle of wine, some cheese, and just had some good laughs (mostly at Max, the cat who was formally mine). I always feel comfortable here at the house, and while it normally takes me a few days to actually relax, this is one of my favorite places to do just that.

When I come up to see these family friends, I normally come up late Friday afternoon and have to leave late Sunday afternoon. This time, I got to come up early in the day on Friday and then am staying until mid-day on Tuesday. I’m really planning on relaxing. Today we had a late lunch at The Monticello Hotel and did some grocery shopping. (Last night I had my first taste of ahi tuna … which I didn’t particularly care for … and tomorrow night I get to have my first taste of Cornish game hen.) I’m staring out the window every once in a while looking at the reflection of trees on Silver Lake. I’m sipping on coffee I’ve been drinking since this morning, and I’m listening to Keith and the Girl while I write. This morning I took a half-mile run for the first time in months and have felt FABULOUS all day long.

There are very few things that I would add to this day to make it better … and one of those things will be around later … berry pie!

This post is inspiring me to make another list for myself … things that always seem to relax me! Off I go to do that now!
