Mental and Emotional Health on My 40th Birthday

by

As I’ve mentioned before, my hopes for this site were to remain quite research based.  But, as I rise this morning and start the celebration that is my 40th birthday, I figure I show you a little bit about my life and explain more about where I have been.  The places in my life that the pictures represent.

I’m going to start with a time prior to the loss of my father, as that was most definitely prior to the onset of some of the worst depression.  While I was searching for those photos, I had a difficult time finding any that I had already scanned and uploaded, the following photo however is from my senior year in high school, a mere 2 years before losing my father.

1986

This is a photo that I found in my father’s photo albums, I can only imagine that he was the one behind the camera because my mother just simply wasn’t this enamored with me…

One last photo, one from shortly before or after my father died.  I do not have a date on the photo, but I’m fairly certain this was the summer prior to losing him.

And, because I know I’ve mentioned before that losing my father was almost detrimental to me, I am going to show you that I did manage to survive.  This is a photo that my father would have been extremely proud of.  I know it doesn’t look like the typical "father is proud of daughter" photo, but he was, as I said, very vain, and he always wished that I could exhibit the self-confidence that he had and wished for me.

He was constantly telling me how smart I was, how pretty I was and would have been happy to see that I had finally decided to make good on my looks.  This, other than the photos of me in a bikini from that same summer, definitely shows that I had accepted my body, my face, my hair and that I was willing to let others see the confidence in me.

1992

You see, I have on a mini-skirt, but not a mini-mini-skirt and although I do have a short mid-driff top, I have something on over it to make it a little more conservative.  But, if I have to say so myself, check out those legs?

And, with that, you can read and see more about my 40th birthday at the following links.
