So, I’ve been neglecting the edu-ma-cational part of this blog and I’ve been feeling guilty about this. Thhhheeeeennnn, this morning in the shower I had the BEST idear evAr! I’m going to write about guilt! I’m going to write about what it is, when I feel it, what I do about it and what the “experts” say to do about it all! Be prepared to learn something this week my dear readers!
Guilt, according to Merriam-Webster is pronounced “‘gilt, functions as a noun and (my favorite part) the etymology reads as “Middle English, delinquency, guilt from Old English gylt delinquency. It is then defined as the fact of having committed a breach of conduct especially violating law & involving a penalty, a feeling of culpability for offenses, the state of one who has committed an offense especially consciously as well as feelings of culpability especially for imagined offenses or from a sense of inadequacy. For these entries, I shall be focusing on that last definition … feeling at fault particularly for imagined offenses. So, to put it as simply as I can: Guilt means you feel bad for something that probably didn’t happen.
Why then, do so many people suffer daily from feelings of guilt? Well, research has shown that a lot of the time, it has to do with growing up in a religious environment. Guilt is the first real “feeling in the Bible. It is written that God told Adam & Eve that they could eat anything in the Garden of Eden but the apples. Well guess what happened and guess what they felt! Even if you aren’t a Bible-believer, you’ve probably dealt with guilt before. Where did you learn about guilt? Is it just a feeling that, as humans, we are instilled with? Is it something that comes from our mothers? (I swear they have these microchips installed when they find out they’re pregnant!) What gives 99% of humans the ability to experience this feeling for imagined actions?

So in other words, Eve is at fault for tempting Adam. Or is it that Adam is at fault for being so, um, dumb?
Does the question have to be general, or can it be personal?
