Dreams
Last night I had a dream that I was teaching children in South Africa; most likely in Namibia. I don’t remember much from it, but immediately after waking, I was impressed at the clarity of the dream. I was also highly impressed that I was dreaming in German! It is rare for me to dream in German, however, I spent over ten years learning & speaking German so it shouldn’t come as such a shock when I do. I remember fully understanding the woman speaking to me; she told me that if I was going to teach a few of the children on the bus (the bus was full), I had to “take” them all. I was confused in my dream because I didn’t know whether I had to actually take the children, or I was going to teach them and send them home. I woke up wanting to know more.
One of the side effects of many anti-depressants is vivid dreams - and Prozac has definitely had this effect on me. I enjoy it as I like to dream (and remember them), but sometimes I have the most bizarre dreams. I’d love to have them “professionally” analyzed, but since that costs money, I’ll do a little online research! I hope that you do the same and then leave me a comment telling me about your dream!
Last night, I dreamed of school, being a teacher, children, and clearly remember a big yellow school bus. Let’s see what the Dream Moods Dictionary has to say.
“… a dream that takes place in school may be a metaphor for the lessons that you are learning from your waking life.” Okay - makes sense.
“To dream that you are waiting for a bus, indicates a temporary setback in achieving your personal goals.” I was only waiting for the children to get off the bus, but this is as close as any site will give me.
“To see children in your dream, signifies your own childlike qualities or a retreat back to a childlike state. It is an extension of your inner child during a time of innocence, purity, simplicity, and a carefree attitude. You may be longing for the past and the chance to satisfy repressed desires and unfulfilled hopes. Take some time off and cater to the inner child within. Perhaps there is something that you need to see grow and nurtured. ” Interesting. It’s intriguing that all of these things are sort of related. Who figures out what dreams mean? Did they just combine things that naturally come together? Children, school, bus … yeah .. they all go together.
A few weeks ago I dreamed that my mom stole a red Corvette. My mom drives a rather new black Mustang, so there is no reason I would be thinking she’d steal a car. Let’s see what the site says about that!
“To see your mother in your dream, represents the nurturing aspect of your own character.” Nurturing my new car?
“To dream that you are stealing, denotes that you are deprived and where the stealing takes place (at home, the office, at school….) is indicative of your neediness. Alternatively, it may signify unrealized and unfulfilled goals. You may have set your goals too high.” It was in a parking lot … I apparently need asphalt and road paint.
“To see a parked car in your dream, suggests that you need to turn your efforts and energies elsewhere. You may be needlessly spending your energy in a fruitless endeavor. Alternatively, a parked car my symbolize your need to stop and enjoy life.” Why is my subconscious telling me to turn my efforts elsewhere? I’ve finally been concentrating on myself!
Two nights ago I dreamed that a faceless man proposed to me. He gave me a ginormous engagement ring and he had designed it himself. I was frustrated by that dream as the man had no face!
“To dream that you are being proposed to, indicates that you are merging a previously unknown aspect of yourself. More directly, the dream suggests you are thinking about marriage or some serious long-term commitment/project/situation. Your reaction to the proposal indicates your true feelings about marriage or commitment.” Thinking about a serious long-term situation … uh yeah. Grad school? Divorce? Christmas!
“To dream that you receive a ring, denotes that your suspicions and worries over you lover will end. You will come to realize that he is true to his heart and will devote himself to your interest.” ???
Overall, I think that dreams are fun and fun to learn about - but without knowing who decided (and how they decided) that “to see broken earrings in your dreams, suggests that you are being talked about,” I’ll have trouble actually believing in dream interpretation.

from my understanding, much of the symbolism in dream interpretation comes from Freud & Jung. At least, that’s what my dream dictionary says.
